We built the insect hotel to create more habitat for all those bugs and critters and hopefully allow them to overwinter in our garden. Covering your garden beds with woodchip mulch also makes for great insect habitat year around.

There are many types of insects that perform different functions. The most famous would be the bee for it’s pollinating and honey collecting skills. Among others, butterflies also pollinate flowers. Hoverflies, predatory wasps and ladybirds keep the aphid population in check.
