Growing and Harvesting Willow for Firewood

In this video we’re cutting back 12 year old hybrid willow for firewood and to maintain the trees so that they will bush out. Willow trees in particular thrive when cut back. This results in fresh regrowth that can be used for good quality cuttings, kindling, bean poles and stick wood every season. Burning stick wood produces a lot of heat when burnt in a high efficiency wood stove or rocket mass heater, this makes waiting for 10+ years for the tree to produce logs unnecessary.
