Keeping chickens is easy and if your pen is in a permanent location it can turn to muck rather quickly, especially with all the rain we’ve been having here in Ireland lately. By covering the entire chicken pen with a good thick layer of woodchips you will keep their feet clean and the chickens will happily scratch away turning the woodchips into compost which you can use in the garden. No fertility gets lost and you end up with cleaner eggs as a byproduct.
