We have come a long way since these pictures were taken in 2010. It was a tremendous amount of work because we were using conventional gardening methods, but still we had a bumper crop of all kinds of vegetables that year.
It would have been so much easier if we had known about keeping the soil covered with mulch to keep the weeds down and to stop the sun from hitting it directly and killing the majority of the microbial organisms. Mulching the soil with organic matter like woodchips, leafes or straw is often known as lasagne gardening or ‘back to Eden’ gardening
Nevertheless, it was well worth the effort for the experience of the one growing season it lasted when we didn’t have enough space for gardening.
