Oeprei is another surprisingly underutilized perennial vegetable from Belgium where it enjoys great popularity. It can be grown as an annual in a no dig bed just like garlic or planted into the mulched perennial fringes of your garden and harvested as needed in years to come. It’s also an ideal zero maintenance vegetable for food forests and forest gardens. The flavour is somewhere between leek and onion but without the spice of the onion, certainly unique.
